Tax Advisory
Private Advisory
Base cost and rebasing.
Establishing acquisition cost correctly, including on assets brought across borders.
What it is
Where the gain begins.
A gain is only as large as the base cost it is measured against, and that figure is easy to understate — particularly on assets acquired long ago, received as gifts, or brought across borders into a new tax regime. An accurate base cost, properly evidenced, can change a charge significantly.
We establish the correct acquisition cost for each asset, identify where a rebasing applies, and keep the records that support it — so a gain is measured from the right starting point.
How we advise
Acquisition cost
Establishing and evidencing what an asset truly cost.
Rebasing on arrival
Applying any rebasing available when assets enter a new regime.
Gifts and inheritances
Fixing base cost where an asset was received rather than bought.
Records
Holding the documentation a future disposal will rely on.
